Dan Metzger was one of the first players that Memphis 901 FC signed in the lead up to the club’s inaugural campaign, as he inked with the club on Oct. 30, 2018. The midfielder started 26 games for Memphis in 2019, which included nine of the team’s final 10 games. Metzger scored his first 901 FC goal on May 22 vs. Swope Park Rangers.

Before Memphis, Metzger played three seasons with New York Red Bulls II (2015-17) after the club’s MLS affiliate drafted him in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. That stretch included a USL Cup in 2016 with New York. In six playoff matches that season, Metzger scored three times. Late in the 2017 season, the New Jersey native made his MLS debut as a late-game substitute on July 5, 2017. The following season, Metzger made 20 starts in his only season with Penn FC.

Metzger starred at the University of Maryland from 2011 to 2014. He earned First-Team All-Conference honors twice (2013-14) and made the NCAA Tournament four times. The Terrapins won three ACC Championships while Metzger played for Maryland.

Internationally, Metzger has represented the United States at the U-18, U-20, and U-23 levels.
