Memphis, Tenn – Memphis 901 FC fell to Louisville City FC 2-1 in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
The two clubs competed in a tightly contested first half with until 901 FC went down a man with Patrick Seagrist’s second yellow of the match during stoppage time.
The defenses stifled each attacking opportunity as both teams recorded only one shot on target in the first half. Memphis’ lone shot on goal came in the 36th minute when Phillip Goodrum got loose and forced a fingertip save from Kyle Morton
With Louisville also down to 10 players after Amadou Dia earned his second yellow, Memphis looked to catch their opposition off balance. Aaron Molloy lined up a corner that found Phillip Goodrum who needed only one touch to put the ball on the far post and into the back of the net in the 65th minute.
Louisville would answer with a goal of their own in the 71st minute as Niall McCabe found Brian Ownby off the set piece to put home the equalizer.
Ownby would put Louisville up 2-1 in the 80th minute with a header to the far post just past the arms of Trey Muse.
901 FC came up with several opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net in the final 10 minutes of the match.
901 FC will hit the road to face Indy Eleven on Saturday, July 23 at 6 p.m. CT.
