Memphis 901 FC is back on the road this week after grabbing five points in seven days at AutoZone Park last week. They’ll look to complete the season sweep of Las Vegas Lights FC at Cashman Field on Saturday, June 22.
The Beale Street Boys are unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches and will be confident after a strong week punctuated by a 2-1 win over Western Conference leaders New Mexico United. Memphis climbed to the top half of the playoff race.
“It’s the workload we talked about this week,” said 901 FC Head Coach Stephen Glass. “They don’t know when they’re beaten, and they also really love winning. To come away with the three points after the week the team’s had and the effort they’ve had to put in is great. The heat is kicking up and it’s very difficult but I think again you saw the heart and the spirit that they have. Like I said last week, it will carry us a long way.”
Vegas sits at No. 9 in the Western Conference and are unbeaten in six of their last seven matches. Last time out, Vegas grabbed a point in a back-and-forth 3-3 draw at home against Colorado Springs on Tuesday.
“We need to rest and recover. It’ll be a lighter few days,” said Lights FC Head Coach Dennis Sanchez. “I’ll need to rotate a few guys just to keep a level of freshness, but we started this stretch of four games in a really short period and we can walk away on a high note.”
Memphis opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Las Vegas at AutoZone Park thanks to first half goals from Nighte Pickering and Samuel Careaga. 901 FC could rise as high as No. 2 in the Western Conference with three points on Saturday.
“Everyone seems to be spreading the love a little bit and they’re doing well,” Glass said. “But as always the negative Scotsman says we need to keep on working and keep going. It’s important that we go to Vegas next week and continue.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s match is set for 9:30 p.m. CT. Fans can watch on ESPN+ or WMC 5 Plus. The Beale Street Boys return home on Friday, June 28 as Memphis 901 FC hosts Pride Night at AutoZone Park.
