MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Sporting Director Tim Howard and Head Coach Tim Mulqueen announced goalkeeper Jimmy Hague as the latest addition to Memphis 901 FC’s 2020 squad on Tuesday, pending league and federation approval.
A three-season starter for Michigan State University, Hague started all 62 games over his final three seasons with the Spartans (2015-2018). Drafted to FC Cincinnati (MLS) with the 30th overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, the 23-year-old appeared in the matchday squad 34 times during the 2019 season.
“Jimmy was a big part of our Final Four run during the 2018 season in East Lansing,” 901 FC Assistant Coach Ben Pirmann said. “He kept us in three straight one-goal games with excellent performances in the tournament.”
Hague joins Memphis 901 FC as one of the more decorated goalkeepers in recent Big 10 history. A Second-Team All-Big 10 selection after his senior season (2018), Hague also garnered the 2017 Big 10 Goalkeeper of the year. Through his collegiate career Hague recorded 26 shutouts. During his final season with the Spartans, he allowed just five goals in 2151 minutes, a goals against average of just 0.84.
“We’re thrilled to have Jimmy join the squad as the first keeper on our roster,” Mulqueen said. “His talent paired with our extensive knowledge with his experience with Coach Pirmann made him a high priority signing heading into the 2020 season.”
The club’s roster now consists of 15 players, with nine returning from the 901 FC’s inaugural 2019 season: Captain Marc Burch, Brandon Allen, Pierre Da Silva, Liam Doyle, Raul Gonzalez, Triston Hodge, Dan Metzger, Duane Muckette, and Leston Paul.
Memphis 901 FC hopes to build on a successful inaugural season where they averaged over 6,500 fans per game—the ninth highest attendance in the league, second among expansion teams.
