MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the first time this season, three Memphis 901 FC players have been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week presented by Cleer Audio for Week 22 of the 2021 regular season. Goalkeeper Cody Cropper and defender Skylar Thomas headline the group, while forward Kyle Murphy was named to the team of the week bench following their 0-3 victory over New York Red Bulls II on Sunday.
Cody Cropper led the way with his second clean sheet in a 901 FC shirt as the veteran goalkeeper accounted for a season-high four saves on four shots faced. Cropper’s second clean sheet ties him for the most this season as the ‘keeper has limited the opposition to an average of one goal per match since he joined the club in August.
Skylar Thomas contributed with his second goal of the year in a similar fashion to his first—heading in a ball off a corner kick, this time in the 26’ of action. Thomas’ two goals on the year give the defender the most in a single season since scoring two for Toronto FC II in 2016. In addition to his goal, Thomas led the team in passing accuracy at 93.1%, passing accuracy in opponent’s half at 100%, interceptions with three and was tied for the team-lead in tackles with two.
Murphy’s second team of the week selection comes on the heels of a two-goal performance in his return to his native New York. Murphy recorded his second brace of the season, slotting home a penalty in the 21’ before becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with his second score of the day in the 79’. Murphy’s current average of a goal every 112.92 minutes puts him at third in the league, and his 13 scores on the season puts him in a tie for fourth place in the league. Additionally, Murphy led the offense with all five of his shots landing on target.
“We’re thrilled for these three guys to be honored by the league, and they each had great individual performances,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “These awards are always an indictment of the team performance, so we’re glad to be honored collectively.”
Next up, Memphis 901 FC return home to face Indy Eleven in a crucial divisional matchup. Kickoff from AutoZone Park is set for 7 p.m. CT with the match streaming on ESPN+.
