MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC hosted an unprecedented atmosphere at AutoZone Park Saturday night, sending a sold-out crowd home with memories for a lifetime.
Memphis welcomed Liga MX powerhouse C.F. Pachuca for the first international friendly in club history and 8,351 strong showed up to watch this historic event. The visitors took the match 6-1 as Elliot Collier scored Memphis’ only goal of the night. Pachuca saw a pair of goals by former English Premier League star Leonardo Ulloa.
But at the end of the match, Ulloa only focused on the host city and the atmosphere he saw Saturday night.
“(Memphis) is a very good team and it’s obvious based on how they played tonight,” Ulloa said. “The City of Memphis is a great city and we really enjoyed the atmosphere here.
“It was great to see the city support both teams.”
Collier echoed his opponent’s sentiments.
“I’ve said it before that we have the best fans in the league,” Collier said. “It was just an amazing atmosphere to play in.”
Following Saturday’s exhibition match, Memphis now heads to Charlotte to play the USL Championship foe Charlotte Independence on Saturday, June 29.
The club returns home on July 6 for a home showdown with Hartford Athletic.
