MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC continues its road trip tomorrow night at 6:30 (CT) at third-place Tampa Bay Rowdies.
901 FC was gutted late in its match last Saturday at playoff-contending Birmingham Legion FC, as Birmingham scored the game's only goal in the 90th minute. With the win, Birmingham remained one of only two teams in the USL Championship Eastern Conference that had not lost in its last five matches.
Memphis and Tampa Bay played earlier this season in the year's opening match on March 9, which was also the first match in 901 FC history. In front of a sold-out crowd of 8,062 fans at AutoZone Park, Tampa Bay scored on a penalty kick in the 4th minute en route to a 1-0 victory. Memphis forward Brandon Allen will be making his return to Tampa Bay tomorrow night, where he played eight matches for the Rowdies this season before joining 901 FC. Allen, who already has three goals in nine matches since joining Memphis, is the second-highest scorer in the league since the start of the 2016 season.
Tomorrow’s match at Tampa Bay Rowdies continues a tough stretch on the 901 FC schedule. Including this match, Memphis has played eight-straight matches against teams in the playoff picture at the time Memphis played them (Tampa Bay, 3rd; Birmingham, 10th; North Carolina, 5th; Saint Louis, 10th; Pittsburgh, 6th; Ottawa, 8th; New York, 2nd; Nashville, 3rd) and 10-of-12 overall.
901 FC will be looking to avoid conceding late goals, which have hurt the club this season. In the last 15 minutes plus extra time of halves 901 FC has allowed 19 goals, which is 51.4 percent of its total goals surrendered this season (37). In extra time alone, Memphis has allowed five goals.
After tomorrow, 901 FC stays on the road for a Wednesday night match at Atlanta United 2 at 6:30 (CT). Memphis' next match in Downtown Memphis is Saturday, Sept. 7 against Swope Park Rangers.
