Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC (5-5-4, 19 points) is set to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (7-6-3, 23 points) in its first interconference match this season. The first meeting of the two sides features a pair of prolific goal scorers in Colorado Springs’ league-leader, Hadji Barry, and Memphis’ Kyle Murphy, with 15 and eight goals, respectively.
Last time out, Memphis 901 FC was reduced to 10 men following an erroneous tackle from Laurent Kissiedou in the 24' of the match against OKC Energy FC. Despite Kyle Murphy knocking in his team-leading eighth goal of the season, an outmanned Memphis was defeated 4-1 at Taft Stadium on Saturday night.
The defeat in Oklahoma City snapped a five-match unbeaten run for Memphis, but the club still finds itself at sixth in the Central Division standings and potentially a win away from third place in the competitive division. On the opposite side of the pitch, Colorado Springs sit at third in the top-heavy Mountain Division. Although the Western Conference side have claimed just three wins in its past eight tries, the Switchbacks are third in the league with 32 goals scored and average a pair of goals per match.
Leading the USL Championship Golden Boot race is Colorado Springs forward Hadji Barry who has accumulated 15 goals in 16 matches played. Exactly halfway through its season, Barry has already claimed the club record for goals in a season. Posing an additional threat up top, midfielder Michee Ngalina is tied for the league lead in assists with seven. Despite fielding and imposing offensive unit, Colorado Springs tends to struggle defensively as the team has conceded the eighth-most goals in the league. Finally, the club is fourth in the league in total fouls conceded with the third most yellow and red cards accumulated.
The Tuesday contest will be the first match against a non-Central Division opponent for 901 FC before the club faces The Miami FC and New York Red Bulls II in September and later plays another Mountain Division opponent in San Antonio FC in early October. Tuesday’s 7 p.m. CT match at AutoZone Park will be broadcast on ESPN Deportes, ESPN+ and SiriusXM FC.
