Aaron Molloy recorded one goal and one assist in victory
COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. – Memphis 901 FC recorded a statement win ending the Colorado Springs Switchbacks’ undefeated start of the season with a 2-1 win at Weidner Field. Aaron Molloy proved to be crucial in the Memphis attack, tallying one goal and one assist in the victory over the Switchbacks.
Memphis and Colorado Springs opened the match exchanging possessions. Phillip Goodrum took a shot from the top of the box that Jeff Caldwell kept out of the goal.
Derek Dodson made a run up the field facing off with the Colorado Springs keeper, taking a shot that Caldwell once again saved in the 26th minute.
The Switchbacks hit their first shot on frame off a Cameron Lindley freekick. Trey Muse made the save as the ball floated around the Memphis wall in the 31st minute.
Colorado Springs kept pressing the Memphis defense after Hadji Barry got behind the backline, going one-on-one with Muse who made a huge save when Barry took a shot in the 42nd minute.
Laurent Kissiedou passed to him and Molloy took a shot, putting Memphis up 1-0 in the 43rd minute.
Memphis entered the second half with momentum, continuing to advance into their attacking third. Memphis narrowly missed another goal with a shot from Patrick Seagrist that hit the outside netting in the 54th minute.
Phillip Goodrum capitalized on another Memphis attack, scoring his second goal of the season and giving Memphis the 2-0 lead off a header from a Molloy free kick in the 59th minute.
The Switchbacks looking to even up the score in the late minutes of the second half took an opportunity in the 85th minute with Michee Ngalina taking a shot but was unable to succeed as Muse made another save.
The Switchbacks took advantage of a corner kick in stoppage time scoring off a Matt Mahoney header, closing the gap to a one-goal Memphis lead.
Memphis held firm in the final three minutes, keeping their lead and ending the match with the win.
