MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC midfielder Leston Paul has been called up to represent the Trinidad and Tobago National Team in the 2022 CONCACAF Nations League, the association announced on Tuesday.
Paul will compete for his country in the two-week group stage starting on Friday, June 3 and is scheduled to return for the club’s match against FC Tulsa on Wednesday, June 22.
“It is always an honor to get the call-up to represent one’s nation. Leston has been an integral part of 901 FC since day 1 and has equally been a stalwart for the Soca Warriors,” Memphis 901 FC Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “The Nations League is the premier event in our region. Leston & his national team will have a wonderful opportunity to showcase themselves and their country on the biggest stage and we couldn’t be more proud of him and his family.”
The veteran midfielder has notched two assists in 10 starts during his fourth season with the club. Paul has created eight scoring chances while completing 80% of his passes, leading the club to its best start in three years.
Paul has made 25 appearances for Trinidad and Tobago since his debut in 2014 and tallied an assist in his last appearance in an International Friendly against Anguilla. Trinidad and Tobago will compete in Group C with Nicaragua, Bahamas and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during the FIFA Match Window from June 3-13.
The CONCACAF Nations League serves as the qualifier for the 2023 Gold Cup, the confederation’s premier event for national teams. CONCACAF is the continental governing body for association football in North America, which includes Central America and the Caribbean region. Contests outside the United States and Mexico are set to be streamed live in the United States on Paramount Plus.
