BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Memphis 901 FC fell to Birmingham Legion FC 1-0 on Wednesday night, ending their five-match win streak on Wednesday night.
Memphis was shut out for only the second time this season as Birmingham took the lead in the 90th minute as Anderson Asiedu one-touched the ball into the back of the net after the ball deflected to his foot. Memphis was unable to capitalize in the final minutes of the match leading to their third loss of the season.
Memphis took control early holding possession and putting pressure on the Birmingham defense as Derek Dodson took the match’s first shot, earning Memphis its first corner of the night.
Trey Muse made a crucial save as Birmingham took a shot within the 18-yard box, saving 901 FC from falling behind early in the match. Legion FC continued to put pressure on the Memphis defense as the ball narrowly missed the goal, bouncing off the goal post in the 27th minute.
Memphis heads into halftime tied 0-0 for only the second time this season. 901 FC maintained 68.7% of possession, connecting 275 passes and taking six shots but were unable to get on target.
Memphis continued to maintain possession of the ball, collecting an opportunity in the 68th minute, receiving a free kick, Molloy sent a shot on frame as Van Oekel made the save to keep the score 0-0.
901 FC created an opportunity as Phillip Goodrum went on a fast break, taking on Phanuel Kivita, narrowly missing the goal to the right in the 80th minute.
Memphis 901 FC is on the road again next week to take on Hartford Athletic on Wednesday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
