Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC maintained their spot at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 2-0 victory over Detroit City FC on Saturday night at AutoZone Park
Aaron Molloy and Graham Smith connected for their second goal this week in the 38th minute. The go-ahead goal curled into the box off the foot of Molloy and found Smith, who put the ball into the back of the net with a header.
Memphis outshot Detroit 11-4 while dominating possession with nine pass interceptions in the first 45 minutes.
Memphis flexed their defense in the second half, preventing Detroit from taking a shot for over 30 minutes despite Detroit holding possession for most of the half.
901 FC struck the final blow in the 89th minute when Phillip Goodrum got loose with only the keeper to beat and notched his ninth goal of the season. Goodrum is now squarely in the race for the golden boot, tied for second most goals in the league through
901 FC is now 6-0 when scoring first and are unbeaten in their last 20 matches when leading at halftime.
Memphis will travel to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies for their next match on Saturday, July 2 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
