Memphis, Tenn – Memphis 901 FC earned a draw after a back-and-forth 1-1 match against Indy Eleven in Indianapolis on Saturday night.
Indy Eleven notched their first goal in over a month in the first 10 minutes, but it was quickly answered by Phillip Goodrum’s third goal in three matches to even the score that would stand through the final whistle
Memphis started out the match on the front foot with their first big chance coming in the fourth minute with Luiz Fernando hitting the crossbar and Leston Paul just missing on his shot after a Goodrum interception.
Indy Eleven would strike quickly on the counter attack with the ball falling to the feet of Solomon Asante, who put his shot past Trey Muse to give Indy the lead in the eighth minute.
901 FC answered the Indy goal in the 24th minute as Rece Buckmaster lost his mark in the box with only the keeper to beat and tipped it across goal for a sliding Goodrum, who finished the scoring opportunity with his 12th goal of the season. Buckmaster notched his fourth assist of the season on the play.
The two teams played in lockstep throughout the second half with Memphis controlling the tempo, but 901 FC couldn’t turn one their many chances into goals, moving to 12-5-3 on the season.
Memphis 901 FC will have a week of rest before traveling to face the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday, August 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
