
Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced today the addition of midfielder Handwalla Bwana on loan from Nashville Soccer Club of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2022 season. This transaction marks the first time that Nashville SC has loaned Memphis 901 a player from the MLS.
“Handwalla is an exciting attacking player, and we are delighted to welcome him into our group,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Sewell said. “He will provide us with an added attacking threat and experience within the group as we progress through the last part of the season.”
Bwana, who started his career as a homegrown player for the Seattle Sounders FC, where he won the MLS Cup in 2019. He was traded to Nashville in October of last year. The attacking midfielder has made one appearance in MLS competition for Nashville SC this season and notched an assist in two US Open Cup appearances.
“I’m excited to join the 901 family,” Bwana said. “I look forward to helping the team achieve bigger goals, make a good run to the playoffs and finish the season as USL Champions.”
Nashville SC has the ability to terminate the loan agreement at any point throughout the season.
Memphis 901 FC’s will host rival Birmingham Legion FC at AutoZone Park with a chance to take control of the Eastern Conference on Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 PM CT.
