Memphis, Tenn. – U.S. Soccer this week announced fixtures for the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, with Memphis 901 FC facing One Knoxville SC in the second round of the competition on Wednesday, April 5 at Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville. Kickoff for the match is set for 6 p.m. CT.
Memphis 901 FC will compete in the single-elimination national soccer competition for the third time in club history, while One Knoxville SC makes their Open Cup debut in their first season as a USL League One side. This year’s edition also marks the second consecutive year the club will face an in-state opponent in the second round of the tournament.
“I think the Open Cup lends itself to that. We’ve got a game that we know is going to be an event with an in-state rival,” Head Coach Stephen Glass said. “They’ll see it as a big occasion, so it’s important that we rise to that occasion.”
The tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur clubs affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The winner will earn $300,00 in prize money and a berth in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions League. The runner-up will earn $100,000, while the team that advances the furthest from each lower division will take home $25,000 in cash prizes.
Memphis 901 FC opens the 2023 USL Championship regular season against Loudoun United FC on March 11 at 4 p.m. CT at AutoZone Park. Tickets are available on the club’s website.
