Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC fell to Loudoun United FC 3-1 in the first match of the 2023 regular season on Saturday at AutoZone Park.
Memphis faced an early deficit as Loudoun found two early goals in the first 15 minutes of the match, putting the club on the back foot until an answer in the 37th minute from Laurent Kissiedou.
A giveaway in the midfield from Loudoun got Bruno Lapa loose with the ball allowing the midfielder to speed towards the opposing box and dish to Kissiedou, who used two touches to beat the keeper for the first score of the season.
Memphis spent most of the second half one man down but knocked on the door in the opposition box several times. Aaron Molloy, Dylan Borczak and Jeremy Kelly created chances throughout the final 30 minutes of the match but Memphis was unable to convert. Loudoun notched an insurance goal during stoppage time.
Memphis held the advantage with 53% of possession and outshot Loudoun 14-9 in the loss.
