Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC is back at AutoZone Park looking for three points against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, March 18 at 4 p.m. CT.
The Beale St. Boys look to build off of a strong second half showing in the season-opening loss to Loudoun United to secure a result before a two-week road trip.
901 FC will try to replicate the defense-to-offense spark found in the 38th minute of the season opener when a takeaway for Bruno Lapa allowed a three-on-two counter attack leaving Laurent Kissiedou with just the keeper to beat for the first goal of the season.
Memphis 901 FC will be without Kissiedou, however, after a red card in the second half of the season opener.
Pittsburgh played to a draw with Birmingham Legion FC last Saturday with a goal from midfielder Robbie Mertz. In action looking to stop the Pittsburgh attack will be former Riverhound Jelani Peters, who made over 52 appearances with the club over two seasons before signing with Memphis.
Memphis split the series with Pittsburgh with the visiting club winning in each meeting. Pittsburgh won 3-0 in the 2022 season opener before Memphis grabbed three points in the August 13 meeting with goals from Luiz Fernando and Aaron Molloy.
Kickoff for the Week 2 matchup is set for 4 p.m. at AutoZone Park and will be broadcast on ESPN+ nationally and WMC 5.2 Bounce TV locally. Tickets are available for purchase with $5 corner seats and $10 off all Coors Light Chill Zone premium seats.
Quotables
“I think the focus has to be starting properly. If you start like (the season opener) against Pittsburgh, the same result happens. It’s important that we start games properly and if we play the game like we did in the second half (against Loudoun), we won’t have a problem this season. But if we start we did, we will.” – Stephen Glass
