Birmingham, Ala. – Memphis 901 FC finished their historic run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as they were defeated by Birmingham Legion FC 3-0 on Wednesday night at Protective Stadium.
The loss marks 901 FC’s first defeat since March 18 and ended the club’s seven-match unbeaten streak.
Memphis dominated possession in chances in the first phases of the match but fell behind in the 20th minute when Birmingham put in a cross that Juan Agudelo hit with a right-footed strike that deflected off of both posts before rolling past the goal line.
Birmingham doubled the lead in the 39th minute and put the finishing touch in at the 64th minute in the second half.
Memphis returns to AutoZone Park to host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Wynee Soccer Benefit Night at AutoZone Park FC on Saturday, May 13 at 7 p.m. CT.
Fans can purchase tickets to the May 13 match at the club’s website using code ‘WYNNE’ and $5 of proceeds from each ticket will be donated to tornado victims from Wynne High School.
