Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC used a two-goal performance from forward Luiz Fernando to grab a 2-1 victory over Colorado Switchbacks on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Fernando scored his third and fourth goals of the season as the Beale St. Boys extended their USL Championship unbeaten streak to six, with their last loss in the league coming on March 18.
Memphis capitalized on their hot start in the 10th minute with a goal from Fernando on a sliding finish. Jeremy Kelly gained possession in the midfield and put a ball through to Nighte Pickering, who crossed it in for Fernando to finish and take the lead. Fernando has contributed to scores in five of the club’s last six matches.
Colorado Springs would find a first half equalizer, however, as Romario Williams saw the back of the net in the 22nd minute.
Despite playing a man down, Memphis spent most of the second half in Switchbacks territory with several opportunities at goal from Phillip Goodrum and Laurent Kissiedou. Memphis finally got their chance when Fernando got loose behind the defense and beat the keeper with a chip over and into the net.
Fernando now leads a dangerous 901 FC attack with four goals and two assists in eight appearances.
Memphis 901 FC hits the road to face FC Tulsa on Friday, May 19 at ONEOK Field. Kickoff for the match is set for 8 p.m. CT.
