Oakland, Calif. – Memphis 901 FC earned a hard-fought point in their midweek matchup against Oakland Roots SC on Wednesday night at Pioneer Stadium.
The Beale St. Boys moved up to No. 4 in the Eastern Conference standings with strong performances from Laurent Kissiedou and Nighte Pickering as they connected for a second half goal to split points with the hosts.
Oakland grabbed the first half lead when Jeciel Cedeno found space around the Memphis defense and finished past a diving Bill Hamid to score.
901 FC equalized in the 61st minute as a ball through from Nighte Pickering fell to the feet of Laurent Kissiedou. The winger used his left foot to even the score and put away his fourth goal of the season. Pickering notched his team-leading fourth assist of the season.
Memphis held the advantage for the remainder of the match and generated seven chances at the goal in the second half. 901 FC nearly earn the winner during stoppage time when Rashwan Dally found Dylan Borczak in the box for the strike into the net, but Borczak was called just offsides leaving Memphis with just one point from the match.
Memphis 901 FC’s two-match West Coast tour continues on Saturday, July 15 as they take on Sacramento Republic FC at Heary Health Park with a 10 p.m. CT kickoff.
