Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC fell to Orange County SC in a 4-3 offensive battle at AutoZone Park on Saturday night.
The Beale Street Boys found goals from Emerson Hyndman, Rece Buckmaster and Rodrigo da Costa, but couldn’t contain Milan Iloski and the Orange County attack.
Memphis struck first at the six-minute mark with a one-time strike from Emerson Hyndman to take the lead. A cross from Aaron Moloy sailed through the box to the feet of Hyndman, who hit a one-bounce volley that proved to be too much for the Orange County goalkeeper to handle. The former USMNT and MLS midfielder has scored three goals in just eight appearances in Memphis.
Rece Buckmaster doubled the lead in the 22nd minute when Akeem Ward found him on a cross to the far post. Buckmaster finished with one touch on the volley for his first goal of the season.
901 FC third goal of the half was knocked in by the team’s leading scorer Rodrigo da Costa in the 32nd minute. Luiz Fernando played a ball into the box for Hyndman before the ball pinballed in front of the goal until Da Costa put in the final touch.
A contentious second half came to a head when Orange County got behind the Memphis defense and put away the game-deciding score in the 86th minute of the match.
901 FC hits the road for the start of a four-match stint away from AutoZone Park with the first game against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, July 29 at 6 p.m. CT.
