Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC today announced the club has signed Walid “Tulu” Yacoubou to a multi-year contract, pending league and federation approval.
“We are delighted to welcome Tulu to Memphis,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “He is very experienced in the Championship and brings good athleticism to our defensive group, he is strong one-on-one and has very good character. Our fans will love his style of play and we look forward to Tulu helping us achieve success in 2024.”
The center back brings over 60 matches of USL Championship experience to the Memphis backline. Tulu was transferred to San Antonio FC during the 2023 season after three seasons with Hartford Athletic. Prior to joining Hartford in 2021, Tulu spent time in Portugal with Sporting Club Ideal, Swedish third division side IFK Holmsund and USL Championship side FC Tulsa, then known as Tulsa Roughnecks.
Tulu joins a strong stable of Memphis defenders including Akeem Ward, Carson Vom Steeg, Lucas Turci and Oscar Jimenez.
Memphis 901 FC opens the 2024 USL Championship Regular Season against Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, March 9 at AutoZone Park. Season Tickets are available now on the club’s official website.
