POSTGAME QUOTE SHEET
Memphis 901 FC vs. Orange County SC | April 6, 2023 – AutoZone Park, Memphis, Tenn.
Head Coach Stephen Glass
On the team’s performance:
“I don’t think they particularly did anything to break us down. I think we started the second half fairly well. We came out with some good opportunities to score goals, but we switch off and have a few individual errors and you end up two down. We had a lack of focus at the wrong time in the game and we get punished for it against a team that can keep the ball pretty well. That’s probably the whole story of the game.”
On Orange County:
“They’re disciplined and they sit on their block like most teams in the league. We did find ways through them and around them. It looked like if we’re more clinical finishing we could’ve been up one or two before. We need to make sure we take our chances, like we talked about last week. I think if we finished better today we’re on the other end of the result.”
On the defensive performance:
“Defensively we have those moments in games, it’s not a defensive team problem. I think there’s just one or two individual mistakes when a center forward runs through to center backs. That’s not something you have to point out to them. They know as soon as it happens. There’s moments like that that need to get eradicated. We’ll look after our own business better, and we’ll be better for it.”
On the season moving forward:
“We’ve got to believe it. There’s a number of new players and it took us a bit to get going last year. When you win the first game, you think you’re on your way. We want to be in the top half of the league. We want to be up there pushing and we know we can get the results to do it. We’ve got a group of players that are capable of doing it 100 percent.”
