FENTON, Missouri – Memphis 901 FC’s final road trip this preseason was one to quickly move on from as the club fell 3-0 to Saint Louis FC Sunday at Toyota Stadium.
Blustery, cold conditions welcomed Memphis Sunday afternoon as the club took on its second USL Championship opponent in 2019.
Saint Louis took control early after a goal by Kadeem Dacres in the 23rd minute. The hosts would go onto grab a 2-0 lead headed into halftime as Kyle Greig capitalized on a set piece.
Memphis did show improvement in the second half with aggressive tackles in the final third and more chances on goal.
Dacres however would complete his brace (two goals) off a header to make it 3-0 late into the match. Saint Louis FC held firm defensively the rest of the match to complete the shutout.
Memphis head coach Tim Mulqueen said Sunday’s match was another opportunity for the club to grow by playing a playoff-caliber team like Saint Louis.
“I think going on the road has been a great experience for our team,” Mulqueen said. “We’ve learned some things about ourselves and where we need to get better.
“That’s what the preseason is for and our target is still the (regular season) opener on March 9. We’ll work the next 13 days to make sure we’re ready for that opener.”
Memphis will return to the Bluff City to take on the University of Memphis on Friday, March 1 at AutoZone Park in a closed-door match to wrap up the preseason.
The first field conversion is set for Monday at AutoZone Park. The lining of the field will likely happen on Wednesday evening or Thursday.
The club’s inaugural USL Championship season kicks off at AutoZone Park on Saturday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Single match tickets for home matches in March and April are now on sale.
Season tickets, group tickets, and 7 Match Flex Plans are also available, with full season tickets starting at just $10 per match. Call (901) 721-6000 or go to https://www.memphis901fc.com/tickets for more information on all ticket options.
