Elliot Collier scored the first goal in club history in a Week 2. Fellow forward Rashawn Dally completed a follow-up act in Week 3, scoring in the 1-0 win over Bethlehem Steel FC. Week by week, Memphis attackers have found more of a rhythm. The club has a 2-to-1 goal advantage in open play and the chances are coming earlier in each match. Memphis had two shots on target in the first half in back-to-back matches. The defensive play has opened up more opportunities up top, putting more and more pressure on opposing defenses. If that trend continues into Friday, could another Memphis player open his 2019 goal account?

Memphis’ defense has been outstanding throughout the first three matches. 901 FC has allowed just two goals in 284 minutes of play. The club recorded its first shutout of the season Sunday at Bethlehem thanks to stout defensive play from the backline and goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell. Defender Wes Charpie was honored by the league for his outstanding play which featured a clutch last-minute clearance to preserve the win. Red Bulls II will pose another challenge as the club features a bevy of goal scorers. Leading that group is forward Tom Barlow, who recorded a brace (two goals) in Week 1 against Swope Park Rangers. The chess match in Memphis’ final third will be interesting to watch.

As mentioned in the match preview, Friday night’s match will be a homecoming match for several members of 901 FC. Former Red Bulls II players Dan Metzger (2015-17) and Scott Levene (2018) return to Montclair as well as former Red Bulls youth product and current 901 FC midfielder Adam Najem. Najem and Metzger are New Jersey natives with the latter winning a USL Cup Championship with New York in 2016. Also returning home will be head coach Tim Mulqueen who hails from Fords in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. With a significant number of New Jersey connections, 901 FC is expected to have a large contingency at MSU Soccer Park Friday night.
