Despite the defeat, 901 FC (4-10-6, 18 pts) has a point in seven of its last 11 matches. The contest at Pittsburgh (9-3-8, 35 pts) continued a tough stretch of matches for Memphis. 901 FC has played four-straight matches against teams in playoff contention and six of its last eight overall.
901 FC midfielder Marcus Epps made his team debut as a substitute in the 51st minute. He was acquired on loan from New York Red Bulls of MLS earlier this week.
Pittsburgh’s goals were scored by Tobi Adewole in the 27th minute, Robbie Mertz in first-half extra time just before intermission, Jordan Dover in the 64th minute, and Steevan Dos Santos in the 69th minute.
Memphis 901 FC remains on the road for a Tuesday night contest at Saint Louis FC. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. 901 FC returns to AutoZone Park next Saturday, Aug. 10, at 7:30 p.m. to welcome North Carolina FC.
