MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC Sporting Director Tim Howard and Head Coach Tim Mulqueen announced Mark Segbers as the second player signed in the new year, on Tuesday, pending league and federation approval.
“Mark is a fast and powerful right back that is strong in one-on-one matchups and effortlessly gets up and down the channel,” Mulqueen said. “He has an excellent ability to get great service delivered and has a proven ability to finish.”
The St. Louis native comes to 901 FC with two seasons of USL Championship experience. He spent last season with Swope Park Rangers playing in 30 games, collecting 1944 minutes and scoring one goal. Prior to last season, Segbers spent time playing for Orange County SC and Chicago FC United of USL League Two.
“Mark is very athletic with good speed, balance and strength. He also has a very good soccer IQ,” Mulqueen said.
Segbers joins a strong group of defenders with new signing Zach Carroll, Captain Marc Burch, and fellow returners Liam Doyle and Triston Hodge. The signing of Segbers brings 901 FC roster to 11 players with returners in Brandon Allen, Dan Metzger, Pierre Da Silva, Raul Gonzalez, Duane Muckette and Leston Paul.
Memphis 901 FC hopes to build on a successful inaugural season where they averaged over 6,500 fans per game—the ninth highest attendance in the league, second among expansion teams.
