Memphis, Tenn. – The USL Championship on Wednesday announced Memphis 901 FC Head Coach Stephen Glass has been named the USL Championship Coach of the Month for June after leading the club to four wins in an undefeated month amid a franchise-best 12 match unbeaten streak from March 18 to July 1.
“I am honored and grateful to be named Coach of the Month,” Glass said. “I see it as a recognition for our players, staff and families following some exceptional performances in June. Our entire group contributed to some top performances against very good opponents so there is a lot to be pleased about and for us to build on.”
The Beale St. Boys (8-4-4) won four of their five matches in June, including statement victories over Charleston Battery, Louisville City FC and FC Tulsa while carrying a +11 goal differential as they climbed the Eastern Conference standings. Memphis remains within striking distance of the top of the table with games in hand on each team in the conference.
“I want to thank the supporters for their continued backing at AutoZone Park,” Glass added. “We appreciate the atmosphere they create, which is a huge help, and we will continue our efforts to give them a team they can be proud of.”
Arriving in Memphis after stints with Atlanta United and top clubs in the Scottish Premiership, Glass brought his expertise in quickly developing young talent such as Nighte Pickering while deploying established contributors in Aaron Molloy and Jeremy Kelly in his system alongside midseason acquisitions like Emerson Hyndman and Rodrigo da Costa.
“We are delighted for Stephen to be recognized for the great work he has done so far this season,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “The boys have really bought in to his ideas and their performances have been first class. We look forward to a fantastic second half of the season for our group.”
Glass earned 61% of the ballot to claim the award. Coach of the Month is voted upon by the USL Championship National Media Panel and the USL Championship Technical Committee.
Memphis 901 FC begins a two-match West Coast tour tonight as they take on Oakland Roots SC at 9 p.m. CT before facing Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, July 15.
