Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC attacker Rodrigo Da Costa has been named USL Championship Player of the Week for Week 29 after his historic performance in Tampa Bay on Saturday.
The Brazilian international notched his first career hat trick while surpassing his individual single-season high for goals scored, finding the back of the net 14 times in 2023. Da Costa played a role in all four goals as the Beale Street Boys snapped Tampa’s 10-game unbeaten streak to clinch a spot in the USL Championship playoffs.
“Rodrigo’s done brilliantly for us since we managed to get him in the door,” 901 FC Head Coach Stephen Glass said. “He’s a player that plays like a leader in the group. He wanted to be here. His quality is never in doubt, and it’s been a matter of time since he’s gotten the reward for the work.”
Arriving in Memphis with a blockbuster trade in May, Da Costa has been the catalyst for the 901 FC forward line, helping the club reach its third consecutive postseason appearance. Da Costa ranks sixth in the league this season in both goals scored and chances created with 52.
Da Costa earned 50% of the ballot for the award. The Championship’s Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship.
The Beale Street Boys return to AutoZone Park to face Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday, September 30 at 7 p.m. CT. Fans can purchase tickets on the club’s official website.
